Balenciaga’s couture fall 2026 Crystal City Bag is a new exclusive status symbol it-bag in the making.
You heard it here first, couture bags are the new it-bags. And with Birkin and Classic Flap fatigue, why not? Both Schiaparelli and Dior debuted their own artful takes on bags for the new couture fall 2026 season and so did Balenciaga. Pierpaolo Piccioli’s debut haute couture show for Balenciaga was marked with a stunning color palette and a strong textural wonderland straight from the master couturier’s mind.
The collection also debuted the Balenciaga City bag made of metal crystal mesh. The new bag combines the chic and ease of the classic It-bag staple, with the couture level pizazz of a bag that feels truly special.

We’ve now seen the City bag cycle through a range of creative directors. First during Nicolas Ghesquière’s tenure, next with the infamous Demna, and now with newly named creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. Presented in three different iterations, Balenciaga’s couture crystal City bag has all the makings of a future, exclusive, status symbol it-bag.
It’s entirely wearable and useful while still being incredibly whimsical and over-the-top. It will likely be incredibly hard to get, guaranteeing its place as a chic status symbol. It maintains its practicality without sacrificing whimsy, which is no easy feat. The crystal couture City bags come with a reflective metallic trim and are entirely covered in a sea of shiny crystal mesh accents, in shades of light, green-ish gold, copper, and dark bronze, in large and mini sizes. Each bag is reportedly covered in 40,000 glittery Swarovski crystals.
