Iconic: John Galliano Spring 2015 Necklace

Remembering the under-the-radar, iconic John Galliano Spring 2015 necklace.

The year was 2015, all was well in Paris, and Bill Gaytten (a protégé of Galliano) was designing the John Galliano collections coming down the runway. The John Galliano Spring 2015 collection was full of tropical flourish meets 1940s uniforms and 1970s inspired gowns plus–one of the most iconic necklaces from the brand.

Think: extremely large, oversized and colorful. The one main statement-making accessory of the spring 2015 John Galliano runway collection in Paris was an intricate leaf collar necklace displaying a rainbow range of hues. It is fantastically glorious in size and scale, and mesmerizing in color and texture.

“With his new collection for John Galliano, Bill Gaytten was inspired by all the things he could do with jacquard. The patterns and textures made him think of the artisanal and the organic, which—in that leap of faith you must take at face value with creative types—took him deep into the jungle: Bamboo prints, wood-veneer-trimmed basket weaves, patterns of scarification, and vivid applications of iridescent plastic leaves window-dressed the theme,” wrote fashion critic Tim Blanks of the collection.

Galliano was well-known for his iconic, boundary breaking jewelry at Dior. But the jewelry from his namesake line is even more impossibly rare and hard to find on the secondhand market.

As far as statement necklaces go, the John Galliano Spring 2015 necklace has major presence. Its huge rainbow-hued laser-cut acrylic leaves in varying degrees of transparency are scattered to create a wild, organic feel equal to wearable art. The leaves are flanked by a gold tone bar (signed John Galliano on the back) and hang from a sturdy green leather collar with contrasting pink stitching. The John Galliano Spring 2015 necklace is available now, on Dollchunk Bazaar.
