The Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Stain

This is our unfiltered review of the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Stain.

Over the years, Anastasia Beverly Hills has become as well-known for its lip products as it has for its brow and eye products that originally garnered attention for the brand. The matte liquid lipsticks have a cult-worthy following. So when I heard about the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Stain, I knew I had to review them!

This lip stain is an entirely new product for the brand. It comes in five colors (gray mauve, rosewood, orchid, hot pink, black cherry, dusty rose). Designed as a long-lasting stain, this is the perfect lightweight lipstick that feels weightless and stays for hours. It doesn’t bleed or get crusty like some of the traditional matte liquid lipsticks; instead, lips feel like you’re wearing nothing. The formula is also waterproof, and honestly, the perfect lipstick to wear under a mask.

I swatched all of the colors on my arm and also tried all of them on my lips. A word of advice: you really need to exfoliate your lips, especially the inner lip as some of the pigment will sit on any little bits of dryness. Also, you’ll need a strong oil-based makeup remover to get these off. For the darker, bolder shades especially, this is an all-day color situation. I ate an entire bagel after applying Orchid and didn’t notice any fading.

After removal – these are super pigmented!

The formula is quite watery, but generally easy to apply. ABH suggest to apply by “start outlining the Cupid’s bow with the precision doe-foot applicator. Then, sweep the applicator from one corner of the mouth toward the center of the lips. Repeat on the other side. Outline the bottom lip and sweep from each corner toward the center of the lips. Allow formula to dry in place.”

As far as the colors go, I feel like ABH really nailed it with some unique colors. Especially the lighter, nude hues (rosewood and dusty rose). Rarely do you see a “nude” stain. These are the perfect everyday colors and they’re also the most easy to wear, since the colors are most natural and less noticeably if they settle into dry patches or the inner lip.

Gray Mauve

I’m completely obsessed with the gray mauve — it’s the perfect greige color that’s slightly gothic, really chic and so cool for end of summer and fall. I was also really impressed with the black cherry hue. It’s so deep and pretty but not too dark. This is the color I didn’t expect to love as much as I did. Overall, I feel like each of the shades of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Stain are pretty unique when it comes to lip stains, and more dimensional than you’d expect.

Once I started trying the darker colors, it was clear that I needed to exfoliate my lips even more–you can see a little bit of how the pigment is settling in. Ultimately when I wear these colors again I will be exfoliating twice in a row.

In the age of wearing a mask everyday, I do think the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Stains are going to become one of my go-tos. The fact that they last all day, are non-drying and don’t bleed onto fabrics or get weird after multiple applications has been something I’ve been looking for.
