The Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Electric Cake Liners

This is our unfiltered review of the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Electric Cake Liners.

I am someone who loves neon makeup in every way, shape and form. And when it comes to neon eye makeup, it’s actually not that easy to find a true neon pigment. Either it comes off as too watercolor-like, not bright enough, or just not even in the right color family as neon at all. Give me highlighter yellow, pink and orange so bright it literally blinds you – and neon green that is truly electric – those are the neon colors I’m most obsessed with in makeup.

Finally, there’s an eyeliner product that lives up to all the bold claims of actually being neon. Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Electric Cake Liners are the brightest, truest neon liners I have ever used – and they last all day without smudging or clumping.

The ABH Norvina Electric Cake Liners come in two different shade ranges. The format is different from what we’ve seen before. Each one is a little bit like a vertical palette, which slides open to offer three different hues.

  • Set 1 – Electric Pink, Electric Yellow, Electric Line
  • Set 2 – Electric Orange, Opaque White, Electric Purple

The application too, is different from what you normally know the brand for. If you’ve ever used the infamous water-activated Kryolan aquacolor makeup, it’s a lot like that. ABH Norvina Electric Cake Liners are glycerin-based paints. These eyeliners are in solid, cake form and have to be activated by water. You only need a tiny bit though. Simply dip your brush in water for a few seconds, or even spritz your brush with your favorite mist, and swipe it on the solid formula. Once water hits the cake liner, it becomes really soft, really fast, so you really don’t need to apply pressure. Be gentle. A little of this product goes a very long way.

I lean more towards favoring set one, since it’s all neons, but set two is also great because of the incredible neon orange shade. The white is also a bright, very opaque liner which is hard to find – so if you like that sort of thing, it’s definitely worth stocking up and getting both sets. The purple shade in set two is the only one that’s not totally bright in-your-face in its payoff, but it’s a pretty purple shade that pairs well with the rest of the sets.

The fun thing about these liners is the fact that you get more than one color per product. It’s designed with the idea in mind that you can really combine multiple shades for a fun look. Also, since they’re activated with water, they’re easy to use. If you mess up, you can easily wipe it off with a Q-tip and start again.

ABH Norvina Electric Cake Liners will be priced at $30 each, and are officially launching May 11th at Sephora and on ABH’s website. Would you try them? Shop all the ABH Electric Cake Liners here.
