Last week, we joined (queen) Martha Stewart for an evening of cooking at her beautifully decorated, immaculate lair near the West Side Highway in New York City. The occasion was to celebrate her newly minted partnership with Marley Spoon (now called Martha & Marley Spoon.)

The Martha Stewart headquarters are everything and more that you’d expect. Think: cookbooks shelved and organized by country, type and region, multiple kitchens rendered in different styles, and our personal favorite: a prop room brimming with everything you could ever imagine.  Here, a few tidbits we learned while chatting with the fully inspirational, savvy and chic icon.

Sudden Chic: What’s your favorite thing to bake?

Martha Stewart: Pies. Any kind of pies. Apple, sour cherry, peach, blueberry, lemon meringue.

SC: What’s your favorite thing to cook?

MS: I think pasta. I love all kinds of pasta. I can make homemade, or I can do my own kind of noodles, bucatini with anything.

SC: What’s your favorite place in America to eat?

MS: I have a penchant for Japanese food so I eat a lot of it. I think the best place for it is right here in New York City. En Brasserie and Nobu are probably my favorites right now.

SC: How would you define your brand in three words?

MS: Inspiration, information and for good living.

SC: What’s your favorite color?

MS: Grey. It goes with everything. Everything I have at home is grey.

SC: What about prints?

MS: I’m not a print person. I’m a damask person, but that’s more color really. I’m not a print person.

SC: Is there one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I think my life is a pretty open book. I write a blog every single day, which tells people pretty much every single thing I do.
