Movie Monday: Remembering Mothra the Film

As far as strange and enchanting films go, Mothra is definitely one of them. Mothra produced and distributed by Toho Studios in 1961, as part of the Godzilla franchise.

Beast, monster, savage, kaiju: the Divine Moth who first debuted in a novel by Takehiko Fukunaga later moved on to films and co-starred alongside Godzilla (originally Japanese, circa 1960s); and stood as a major enemy of the great Godzilla. Over all, Mothra appeared in a total of 15 major films from the 1960s throughout the 1990s, but her most iconic appearance may have just been her debut, namesake film in 1961.

Mothra bites the enemy’s tail as well as use her psychic abilities to conquer all. Even more strange, Mothra is often accompanied by two tiny twin fairies – dubbed the Shobijin. They act as Mothra’s heralds, speaking to others on her behalf and summoning her for protection. I just like the way Mothra looks though.
