Every now and then, there’s a specific fashion item I lust for, that for whatever reason, I don’t give into. Maybe it’s the price. Maybe it’s the fact that I already bought too much stuff to fit into my suitcase. Or maybe it’s just because I didn’t realize how special the piece was, until I couldn’t stop thinking about it days, months, or even years later. These are the stories of these pieces that got away.
Once upon a time I was at the most magical place in the world: the Prada Space Outlet in Tuscany. On a rare January visit, they were incredibly well-stocked with coats. One in particular caught my eye — the yellow and red shearling Prada coat from the fall 2014 runway.
This shearling coat, in shades of baby banana yellow and bright scarlet red represents everything good about Prada. The unexpected clashing colors, the rich materials, the bulky, yet balanced shape.
This aforementioned red and yellow Prada shearling coat is one of the notorious ones that got away. Somehow, someway, I had already decided I was buying too many Miu Miu coats so I ended up passing on it, despite the incredible 500 Euro price tag. Years later, I still think about it, because I’ve never seen it in as good condition for such a great price.
Rihanna wore this Prada Fall 2014 shearling coat too, which only solidified it as an iconic piece within fashion history. There was quite a bit of shearling in the fall 2014 collection, and as a result, too many good coats. I’ve often come across different versions of the Prada Fall 2014 Shearling coat, such as one really great one in purple and red. But for some reason, the red and yellow really sing together.
Overall, Miuccia Prada was inspired by director Rainer Werner Fassbinder for this collection, and ultimately, the coat.
