Style Inspiration: Pierrot le Fou

Pierrot le Fou (1965) is a French film directed by Jean-Luc Godard, and you should definitely watch it now only for the retro Techincolor hues, but for the style inspiration alone. It follows the events of a man who runs away with his nanny and former flame, Marianne (Anna Karina), as they travel further and further into the South of France in attempt to find Marianne's "brother", as well as in attempt to escape the Algerian gangsters she happens to be involved with.

Carl Erickson, Fashion Illustrator to Remember

Meet Carl Erickson, the pioneering illustrator known for his work at the for Vogue and Coty cosmetics right after the urn of the century. Living between New York and Paris, Erickson made a name for himself by painting and drawing the way a woman deftly applied kohl liner above her lashes, or another lining her lips with red lipstick while glancing into a delicate gold mirror.

Noir Kei Ninomiya Fall 2020

Although it's true that fashion week is finally over, there's one show in particular that's still on our minds: Noir Kei Ninomiya Fall 2020. Each season, the Japanese designer (part of the Comme des Garcons umbrella), creates some of the most spellbinding pieces, and Fall 2020 was no exception.

Iris Schieferstein’s Bizarre Shoes

While browsing for strange shoes online the other day, I came across something I've never seen before: uniquely bizarre shoes by the German artist, Iris Schieferstein. Something envisioned with the prospect of "new". But, more than epitomizing "new", these shoes deftly illustrated "avant-garde", and shoes as a new form of art. These are the type of shoes that could zealously sit upon one's dresser or other piece of furniture, simply to sit there. Simply to generate conceptions and foster conversations. This blank and rigidly stiff, fresh off-white canvas, smelling still as the back of the dusty local art store awaits dialogue and discussion. Let the world as one enjoy these pieces of bizarre artistry.

Glossier Skywash: The Review

You know when Glossier releases a new product, there's always a lot of hype. I've been a longtime fan of the brand, so when I saw the the latest product, Glossier Skywash, was launching, I knew I had to try it. Glossier describes its new Skywash eye shadow as "A soft wash of matte color for eyes. Liquid-to-powder eyeshadow that gives a diffused, soft effect."

Issey Miyake: The Brand’s 2020 Comeback

And while Miyake may have "retired" from the active fashion world in 1997, he continues to oversee the overall direction of all lines created by his company, with individual lines designed by his staff. For the spring 2020 collection, however, the new appointed design director Satoshi Kondo has brought a fresh new life into the brand, solidifying it as one of the most exciting labels to watch for 2020.

Style Icon: Emma Peel

Emma Peel - super spy! Played by Diana Rigg, she was the shining star of the 1960's adventure series, The Avengers (definitely not related to the Marvel franchise). Emma Peel is amazing for a number of reasons, of course, one of the most important being her sense of style. But put simply, Emma Peel is the ultimate '60s style icon.

All About Issey Miyake – Spring/Summer 2018

He started with the idea of linking the east with the west in his fashion designs, and has continued with that idea in mind, still till this day--though the cult pieces seen on the runway are now designed by a team, rather than Miyake directly.

Remembering Prada’s Fairy Collection

Diaphanous silk dresses printed with images of lithe fairies, checkered skirts and their matching tops, golden dresses rendered in lightweight leather--these are the things that Prada's spring/summer 2008 collection were made of.
